MEDS is located in Liverpool 8 which is a Super Output Area and the main residential area for Liverpool’s Faith and BEM communities. The users of our services live predominantly in the L8, L7 and L15 areas. Our services prioritise residents located in these areas.
We work with a wide range of Faith and BEM communities in Liverpool. These communities comprise over 40 different nationalities ranging from the Far East to the Caribbean. Some of these communities such as the Somali and Yemeni communities are long-standing and migrated for economic reasons; whilst others such as the Kurdish are more recent and have migrated as refugees and asylum seekers.
Each of these communities have their own needs and require different services in addressing the issue of exclusion such as language and cultural barriers, lack of knowledge of the workings of the formal economy, the public sector and funding agencies.
